CAMPAIGN GOAL SET FOR UNITED WAY

Since 1942, the United Way of Tuscarawas County has been there to help those in need in our community.  While the name may have changed over the years, the goal of providing quality health and human service programming to our community has not.  As the organization begins its 66th year of operation, volunteers have set a goal of $550,000 for this fall’s fundraising effort.

“It’s an exciting time to be a part of United Way. We’re starting to see positive results from many of the programs provided by our agency partners.  Our focus on Strengthening Families & Children, Health & Wellness, and Emergency Needs has also been popular with our donors.” said Campaign Chairman John Beitzel of Indian Village Community Bank  “However, there is a growing need for additional support for those agencies serving the less fortunate in our community.  I hope you will join me in providing a generous gift to the United Way campaign this fall."

The United Way has worked with two businesses to provide a special incentive for area residents to participate in this year’s campaign.  TLC Travel and The Commercial and Savings Bank have joined forces to offer a five-day trip for two to the Casa Playa Resort in Fort Myers, Florida along with a $500 travel voucher.  Ten finalists will be selected from companies that have completed their campaigns by Friday, December 19, 2008 at 12:00pm.  A complete set of rules is listed below:

Rules and Regulations for Prize Eligibility

1. Prize. A five-day, four-night stay for two at the Casa Playa Beach Resort in Florida.  A $500 travel voucher is also included with the prize package. Verifiable retail value: $1,750. The prize is not transferable or redeemable for cash or substitution. The prizewinner is responsible for all federal, state and local taxes.  Participation may affect the tax deductibility of your gift.  Donors should consult their tax advisors.  Void where prohibited by law.

3. Entries.  Prize entry pool represents pledge forms returned.  All late, lost or incomplete pledge forms are invalid entries, regardless of the cause.  If a company does not use United Way of Tuscarawas County’s Pledge Form, photocopies of internal pledge forms or other pledge verification documents must be submitted by the entry deadline.  All entries must be returned to the United Way of Tuscarawas County office no later than 12:00pm on Friday, December 19, 2008 to be eligible for the drawing. 4. Winning & Odds: Ten finalists will be randomly selected from among all qualified entries received consistent with these Official Rules in advance of the final drawing for the one prizewinner, and the one prizewinner will be announced during the United Way of Tuscarawas County Annual Meeting in February 2009. The decision of the judges will be final and binding. The odds of winning cannot be determined because they depend on the total number of qualified entries received. Entrants do not need to be present to win. If not present, the prizewinner will be notified by telephone or U.S. mail shortly after the drawing. If the winner cannot be notified within five days, an alternate winner will be chosen. Did You Know?

Since the issue of Child Abuse once again appeared as the most important community issue on our 2006 pledge card survey, it is important to note some of the available statistics.  According to the Prevent Child Abuse Ohio website, Ohio ranks ninth in the nation in reported cases of child abuse and neglect.  In 2002 alone, Ohio had more than 100,000 reported cases.  From 1998 to 2002 the number of children abused and neglected doubled in Ohio.  According to the 2007 – 2008 PCSAO Factbook, Tuscarawas County had 505 new reports of child abuse and neglect in 2005:
